About Us
New Zealand Business Week was established in 1991 and has run annually ever since. To-date over 1250 students from throughout New Zealand having attended the programme. Business Week was originally based on an American programme but has evolved over the years to reflect New Zealand culture and the expertise available in Palmerston North. We pride ourselves on providing a rich and rewarding experience in a fun environment. Through its focus on business the week provides continual self development and educational opportunities for all students.
Organising Committee
The organising committee is a highly dedicated group of individuals with vast experience in running successful Business Week events together with a broad range of business experiences. This committee comprises:
David Tweed: Senior Lecturer, Massey University. David is one of four founding trustees for the NZ Business Week Trust and the current chair. He is a senior lecturer in Enterprise Development in the Department of Management at Massey University and teaches on Massey's Executive MBA Programme. He personally has started, owned and operated three small enterprises in the service sector. Interests include music and foreign languages.
Barbara Shorter: Student Centre Administrator, Palmerston North Boys' High School, working with Guidance Staff and Deans. Barbara is the NZ Business Week Coordinator. She has worked in the High School system for over 18 years and enjoys having contact with students.
Scott Bruce: Born and raised in Palmerston North 43 years ago. Self employed builder, married to Hazel and have two children Robert (8) and Kelly (6). Member of Rotary Club of Milson for 7 years and Past President. Has travelled extensively through Europe, Middle East and Africa and lived and worked in London, and Durban, South Africa before returning to NZ. Hobbies include yachting, have raced extensively both coastal and offshore races. These days enjoy fly fishing the rivers of the Central North Island and relaxing at the bach. Actively involved in Rotary.
Fraser Bell: Marketing Manager, College of Business, Massey University. Fraser is responsible for marketing and business development for the College of Business at Massey and is a member of the College of Business senior management team. With his wife Sue, he also has a farm producing walnuts and a bed & breakfast operation. Fraser has a BCA from Victoria and is completing a BBS (Hons) with Massey.
Tom Quelch: Business Manager, College of Business, Massey University. Tom is a previous Business Adviser to NZBW and now a NZBW Trustee representing Massey University. Tom has a varied management and business background including banking, equipment leasing and university administration and management. Tom is a member of the senior management team within the College of Business with particular focus on the College's financial performance and strategic management. Tom and his wife Vicki have two boys at primary school.
Blair Van Stipriaan: College House Manager, Palmerston North Boys' High School. Blair has been a staff member at PNBHS for nine years. He recently took up the role as College House Manager in term 4 2008, and has enjoyed the ongoing challenge of supervision of a big extended family. He tries (?!) to divide his time between PNBHS, his endurance sporting interests and his family and likes nothing more then combining the last two during weekends and the holidays.
